Boys basketball player of the week (2/13): Lake Highland's James Longergan

What he did:

In a 79-59 victory against Skyline on Friday night, Lonergan scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. The victory clinched a playoff spot for Lake Highlands and tied it in third place with Skyline.

Who he is: A 6-7, 165-pound senior forward 

The stats: 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting and 11 rebounds. Lonergan is averaging 16.8 points and 9.4 rebounds this season.   

He said it: “It was a little bit of everything. I got a couple of great passes for easy layups, and my jump shot was falling.” 

Coach said it: “He’s kind of an inside-out player. At 15 to 16 feet, a lot of the time he’ll get the ball at that range, and he’s either got a shot or a move to the basket.” — Rob Wylie 

Did you know? Lonergan averaged five points per game last year on a team that had nine seniors. … He is the second-youngest of six children.
