The best prospects still available for the Dallas Cowboys entering Day 2 of 2024 NFL draft

Dallas will seek linebackers, running backs and a center on Day 2. Texas RB Jonathon Brooks is a name to watch.

The Cowboys enter Day 2 on Friday with three draft selections, No. 56 in the second round and Nos. 73 and 87 in the third round. After finding their future left tackle with Tyler Guyton at No. 29 overall in the first round, the Cowboys will now seek linebackers, running backs and a center in Day 2.

Edgerrin Cooper, LB, Texas A&M

The 6-2, 230-pounder ran a 4.51 40 at the combine. He finished last season as an AP All-American and was also an All-SEC selection. He’s a potential second-round pick and produced 84 total tackles last season for the Aggies. He’s an inside linebacker who can fill a spot.

Jonathon Brooks, RB, Texas

Jerry Jones was raving about Brooks. The Cowboys owner said the predraft interview with Brooks was the best he’s ever had during the draft process. The Cowboys have tremendous value in Brooks, who rushed for 1,139 yards with 10 touchdowns. He’s coming off a torn ACL so when he’ll be ready is uncertain.

Payton Wilson, LB, NC State

This inside linebacker was one of the 30 visits to the Cowboys’ facility. He was the Butkus Award winner last year while he averaged 11 ½ tackles per game. There were health issues in 2020 and 2021 and there was an arrest for underage drinking in 2019.

Trevin Wallace, LB, Kentucky

Wallace averaged 6.67 tackles per game in the SEC. Wallace has the potential to get picked in the third round, say No. 73 overall, where the Cowboys are seated. Wallace visited the Cowboys’ facility as one of their 30 visits. He ran a 4.51 at the combine.

Braelon Allen, RB, Wisconsin

The Cowboys conducted a formal interview with him at the combine. The 6-1, 235-pounder benched pressed 225 pounds 26 times at the combine. He rushed for 984 yards on 181 carries with 12 touchdowns last season.

Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky

The Cowboys normally draft players from the Senior Bowl and Corley had a strong workout during those practice sessions. In the last two seasons, he caught 180 passes for 2,277 yards with 22 touchdowns.

Zach Frazier, C, West Virginia

Stephen Jones said the team isn’t done looking at the interior of the offensive line and mentioned the potential of Brock Hoffman who might become a starting center. Drafting Frazier, who is recovered from a broken leg, brings competition to that position.

The health of Powers-Johnson raises concerns. But if Powers-Johnson can be picked in the third round it might bring some value. Some draft experts had Powers-Johnson as a late first-round/early second-round pick. But he might fall some.

Maason Smith, DT, LSU

The Cowboys had a formal interview at the combine with Smith. He’s endured some health issues, a shoulder in 2021 and a torn ACL in 2022. In 22 games (17 starts) had 6 ½ sacks. Smith measures at 6-5 and 306 pounds.

McKinnley Jackson, DT, Texas A&M

Jackson measures at 6-1 ½ and weighs 326 pounds. He’s got 12 ½ tackles for loss the last two seasons spanning 20 games. He had a formal interview with the Cowboys at the combine. Jackson was arrested for marijuana possession in 2021.
