Bi-District roundup (4A): Defense propels Poteet to area; Birdville RB Turner gets 46th TD; Aledo, Ennis roll
Mesquite Poteet 17, Frisco Wakeland 2
CARROLLTON — An outstanding defensive effort led Mesquite Poteet to a 17-2 Class 4A Division II Region II bi-district victory over Frisco Wakeland at Standridge Stadium.
Poteet (10-1) allowed only 137 yards, and Wakeland (6-5) never advanced beyond the Poteet 26.
Running back Jaylon Smith paced Poteet with 92 yards, and quarterback Lane Novy tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Kody Edwards with 6:35 left.
Aledo 76, Burleson 6
FORT WORTH—Jess Anders had touchdown runs of 10, 17, and 63-yards and also caught a touchdown pass for 20-yards, leading Aledo (11-0) to a 76-6 victory over Burleson, Friday night, at Saginaw Chisolm Trail.
Anders finished the night with 209-yards on 12 carries and 29-yards receiving on two receptions. Luke Bishop completed seven passes out of nine attempts for 90-yards and three touchdowns. Early in the second quarter, Bishop found Ryan Newsome for a 22-yard touchdown pass. Newsome, also scored on a 60-yard reverse late in the first quarter. John Whatley caught a 3-yard touchdown pass just before the half.
Needing five consecutive point-after-touchdown’s, Chance Nevarez set the National High-School record by kicking 10 extra-points tonight, setting the new record at 177. Quanel Williams returned a punt 53-yards for a score.
Burleson (6-5) was led by back-up quarterback Preston Paden, who replaced Isaiah Hall late in the first half. Paden rushed for 67-yards on 12 attempts. Sophomore Taylor Bissell blocked a punt and returned it 38-yards for a score to put Burleson on the board, late in the game.
Aledo will face FW Boswell in the Second Round at a place and time to be determined.
Birdville 36, TC Byron Nelson 34
SOUTHLAKE — Xavier Turner carried 40 times for 246 yards and four touchdowns, giving him 46 for the season, as area No. 10 Birdville held on to defeat No. 8 Trophy Club Byron Nelson.
Aledo 76, Burleson 6

Aledo’s Chance Nevarez set the national high school record by kicking 10 extra points for a career total of 177.
Ennis 62, Lindale 17
MESQUITE — Jahshawn Johnson scored on an 80-yard punt return barely two minutes into the game and added a 60-yard touchdown pass from Devin Thompson as Ennis routed Lindale at Hanby Stadium.
Wylie 42, Marshall 21
MIDLOTHIAN — Quarterback Carsen Cook threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another as Wylie (7-4) beat Marshall (3-8).
Cook went 10-of-21 for 168 yards. Kameron Kelly had three catches for 72 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a 32-yard touchdown.
Mans. Summit 25, Nacogdoches 15
FORNEY — Sophomore quarterback Braden Nolen passed for 153 yards and two touchdowns to lead Mansfield Summit over Nacogdoches at City Bank Stadium.
McKinney North 26, Tex. Texas 14
LONGVIEW — Ronald Jones rushed for 170 yards and a pair of touchdowns as McKinney North won.
Denton Guyer 69, Saginaw 7
JUSTIN — Jerrod Heard, David Haynes, Anthony Taylor and Alex Honey scored two touchdowns apiece as Guyer routed Saginaw. Heard threw two touchdown passes to Honey and one to Haynes. Guyer also got two touchdowns on interception returns.
Woodrow Wilson 47, Seagoville 10
Tracy James and Da’Montae Bright ran for 148 yards apiece and combined for six rushing touchdowns.
Whitehouse 50, Arl. Seguin 44
MESQUITE — Dominique Hollie scored on a 3-yard run in overtime for Whitehouse.
Whitehouse quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is committed to Texas Tech, threw for two touchdowns and ran for three more, including a 25-yard scramble to tie the score at 44-44 with 0:29 left.
Seguin (6-5) quarterback Kelton Moore threw for 277 yards and a score while rushing for three touchdowns.
