Saturday’s Week 7 roundup: Kimball rallies from 14-3 deficit to turn back Carter
Kimball rallied from an early first-quarter deficit Saturday to defeat Carter, 24-14, at Kincaide Stadium.
Carter (1-6, 1-2) trailed 3-0 after Kimball’s Jose Paz kicked a 24-yard field goal but took the lead on Thomas D’Arric’s 43-yard interception return for a touchdown.
On Kimball’s next possession, Carter took a 14-3 lead when Courtney Arnick recovered a fumble and scampered 55 yards for the touchdown.
From there, Kimball’s defense took over.
Midway through the second quarter, Kimball (6-1, 2-1) pulled within 14-10 on Traveon Thibodeaux’s 31-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Prentavious Moorehead.
Then the defense gave Kimball the lead. Johnny Brown took a fumble back 32 yards for a 17-14 lead. In the third quarter, Kimball’s Xzavier Alexander’s 6-yard TD run put the game away.
Red Oak 31, Forney 28
FORNEY — Jose Flores kicked a 36-yard field goal as time expired to push Red Oak past Forney in a District 15-4A matchup at City Bank Stadium.
James Holmes intercepted a Forney pass at the Red Oak 18 with 2:52 remaining. Red Oak (3-3, 2-2) marched 63 yards in eight plays to set up the game-winning kick.
Forney (2-6, 1-5) took advantage of two Red Oak fourth-quarter turnovers and scored twice in an 11-second span.
Javalin Brock intercepted a pass at the Red Oak 27. After a false-start penalty, Patric Youngman threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Lane Johnson to cut the deficit to 28-21 with 5:44 left.
Then, Forney recovered a fumble at the Red Oak 25 on the next play from scrimmage. Youngman’s 25-yard TD pass to Jace Reese tied the score with 5:33 remaining.
Red Oak outgained Forney, 482-300. Austin VanHove threw for 280 yards and completed passes to eight different receivers. Cameron Bausley rushed 24 times for 121 yards.
Youngman led Forney with 123 yards passing and 94 yards rushing.
