Right-hander Nick Martinez is headed to Triple-A Round Rock.
Martinez has been optioned and the roster spot opened by his departure will be used to activate left-hander Derek Holland, the Rangers announced Monday. Holland is scheduled to start for Texas at Cincinnati on Tuesday.
Since his recall last Wednesday, Martinez had made only one appearance for the Rangers, allowing two hits and one run in 1 1/3 innings at Tampa Bay on Saturday.
Holland (shoulder inflammation) will be making his first major league start since June 20. He compiled a 4.50 ERA in three starts during his rehab assignment with Round Rock.
Tuesday marks the first of two games to be played between the Rangers and Reds in Cincinnati before Texas returns to Globe Life Park to open a series against Cleveland on Thursday.
