Rangers waiting for Josh Hamilton to understand the 'new normal' for his left knee

TORONTO - Josh Hamilton will sit out until at least Friday before restarting his rehab assignment so that the 20-day "clock" on the assignment can be reset to Day 1.

Hamilton felt weakness and discomfort in the back of his left knee during a four-inning stint at Frisco on Saturday and received a cortisone injection. It is the same area that has caused problems for him following a pair of surgeries over the last eight months.

General manager Jon Daniels acknowledged Monday that there is no expectation for Hamilton to return to full health.

"I don't think 100 percent is anybody's expectation," Daniels said. "It's more of getting to a level of feeling comfortable playing on it, of getting an idea of what the new normal is. More than pain, he just kind of feels a weakness there and the knee will just buckle on him at times. It's not a question of pain tolerance, but functionality."
