With child on the way, could Scottie Scheffler miss next month’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson?

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch tees off May 2.

With The CJ Cup Byron Nelson approaching in two weeks, Scottie Scheffler is prepared to put his family first.

During press conference ahead of the RBC Heritage this week, Scheffler said he and his wife, Meredith, are expecting their child to be born at the end of the month.

The Byron Nelson, which will take place near the Dallas resident’s home at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, tees off May 2.

“I’ll obviously take a break when the baby comes. But we’ll see. I don’t know what life looks like. But up until when the baby comes, I’m going to play this week and then I’ll go home and basically just wait. We’re due at the end of the month,” Scheffler said. “Like I said last week, golf now is — it never was my top priority, but I do love competing, and I put in the work. It’s going to take another notch down in priority when our child comes. My family still comes first, and we’ll see how the prep work goes.”

Scheffler, a Highland Park product, went viral during The Masters last week after telling reporters he would head home at any point if his wife went into labor.

“I felt like the story got blown up a bit too much,” Scheffler said. “That’s why I feel like I don’t really talk about my personal life very much just because then I have to answer questions in here about it. It’s just a bit different. But yeah, no signs. No signs of early labor anything like that. But she’s feeling good. Very tired but feeling good, and I’m sure she’s probably getting pretty close to having that baby.”

During an interview on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Scheffler said he and his wife still don’t know the gender of the baby.

“Meredith made that decision,” Scheffler said.
