Calvin Watkins’ final 2024 NFL mock draft: What will Dallas Cowboys do with No. 24 pick?

The Cowboys have a few needs. Which one will they choose to address in the first round?

We’re finally here. The final NFL mock draft. This is, what, Mock 5.0? 10.0?

Actually, it’s our fourth mock of the first round. No more games. No more jokes.

You know some of the players and teams. Quarterbacks, trades, tackles and wide receivers are the storylines of note. Minnesota, Denver, Chicago, New England, Washington and, maybe, Las Vegas and the New York Giants need quarterbacks. We think the Top 10 is going to be crazy.

The team headquartered in Frisco needs a tackle. It needs a center. It needs a running back and an inside linebacker. We wouldn’t mind if the Dallas Cowboys picked a cornerback at some point. It’s a lot to process.

1. Chicago: Caleb Williams, QB, USC

The best quarterback in this class goes to the Windy City.

2. Washington: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU

Several teams want the man who threw 40 TDs in 2023.

3. New England: Drake Maye, QB, UNC

Finding the next QB after Tom Brady has been a problem.

4. Arizona: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

The draft starts here. Will the Cardinals make this pick?

5. LA Chargers: Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

Second-best WR behind Harrison. Teams want this spot.

6. NY Giants: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Don’t be surprised if they draft a QB or trade down.

7. Tennessee: Joe Alt, T, Notre Dame

You get the best tackle and keep it moving.

8. Atlanta: Byron Murphy II, DT, Texas

The DeSoto kid is impressive and worthy of getting picked this high.

9. Chicago: JC Latham, T, Alabama

You’ve got to protect the QB. Pretty simple, right?

10. NY Jets: Taliese Fuaga, T, Oregon State

Plenty of talented tackles in this class.

11. Minnesota: Laiatu Latu, Edge, UCLA

The Vikings will not have this pick. Need to move up.

12. Denver: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia

Best TE in the class. The Broncos need a QB. J.J. McCarthy?

Another talented tackle is off the boards.

14. New Orleans: Troy Fautanu, T, Washington

He might go higher, just depends on how you rank the tackles.

15. Indianapolis: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo

He ran a 4.33 40 and has the size you want.

Improving the defense is a must for the new head coach.

24. Dallas: Graham Barton, T/G, Duke

So what do you do with Barton? He played left tackle in college, so does he project well there? If so, then Tyler Smith stays at guard. Do you move Barton to guard and send Smith to tackle? A solid pick with a good problem to have.

25. Green Bay: Brian Thomas, WR, LSU

When you’re young, get younger and better.

26. Tampa Bay: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama

Bucs may get a pass rusher but the corner helps.

Nothing wrong with adding more pass rushers.

30. Baltimore: Kingsley Suamataia, T, BYU

Lamar Jackson could always use more protection.

Texas is back. Another Longhorn goes in the first round.
