Skylar Diggins nearing full return from injury to Dallas Wings

ARLINGTON -- The short-handed Dallas Wings fell to the Chicago Sky on Sunday night with just nine players in the rotation. Forward Glory Johnson will return in two games after she finishes serving her seven-game suspension.

And All-Star point guard Skylar Diggins' return may not be too far behind.

After Dallas' loss to Chicago, coach Fred Williams provided an update on Diggins' status and said her return could be just around the corner.

"I would say she's maybe one or two games away now," Williams revealed. "With her it's just getting used to a lot of contact. That's going to have to happen in games."

Diggins, who tore her ACL nine games into last season and needed surgery to repair the ligament, played in just one game this season -- Dallas' home-opening win against San Antonio. But Diggins attempted just two shots in the game and did not show her usual spark attacking the basket.

Since that game, she's been labelled as day-to-day but has practiced with the team and warmed up with her teammates before each contest.

She also is sure to take a little time during those warmups to greet the fans there to watch the team.

The other injured Wing is forward Theresa Plaissance, who sprained her ankle in the San Antonio game.

Williams is optimistic that she will be able to return soon though he cautioned that she will still be a game-time decision for Saturday's road game against Minnesota.

"To be fair with you, I think she'll be ready after the Minnesota game," Williams said, "but that ankle is really going down. The swelling is going down. I miss her defense, her size, her outside shooting. We miss a lot of that from her."

The incoming reinforcements cannot arrive soon enough for the 3-3 Wings.

"It helps to have the other three players be with us here soon," Williams said. "That's definitely going to help a great deal for our bench strength and our rotations.

"We all know that we have a couple players that's pretty much like money in the bank for us that's going to help us out in the long run."
