4:30 p.m. Saturday at Curtis Culwell Center
Prosper (35-11): Playing in its first state tournament, Prosper is one win away from completing a remarkable run through the postseason. It beat area-ranked No. 5 Frisco, No. 3 Waxahachie and No. 2 Frisco Centennial to reach state. Then Prosper swept state-ranked No. 2 Dripping Springs in a semifinal Thursday. Amarillo is the top-ranked team in the state. Meredith Bramer leads the Prosper attack. The North Texas signee had 14 kills against Dripping Springs and added 12 digs. Abby Jameson and Sydney Riggs combined for 21 kills in the same match. Setter Ashley Brown had 39 assists.
Amarillo (37-9): The Lady Sandies were the last team from outside the Dallas-area to win a 5A state championship, beating Austin Westlake in 2009. Amarillo needed four sets to dispatch Friendswood in Thursday’s state semifinal, 25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 25-15. Channing Castleberry led the way with 15 kills, and setter Abbie Lynn added 10 kills, 25 assists and 12 digs. Amarillo is playing in its 15th state tournament. Coach Jan Barker eclipsed 900 wins last season and has won eight 5A state titles during her tenure in Amarillo.
