Chris Smith plays football for Plano East. POW of week.

What he did: Smith played a key role in Plano East’s 21-13 win against Flower Mound Marcus, grabbing two interceptions — both in East territory and one at its own 12-yard line — to halt Marcus scoring drives. East won despite being outgained by 79 yards.

Who he is: A 6-1, 170-pound senior cornerback

The stats: 5 tackles, 1 pass breakup, 2 interceptions

He said it: “It was important for our defense to step up in this game. With the interceptions, I just attacked the ball in the air and came up with it.”

Coach said it: “Our offense was sputtering, and our defense had to play an outstanding game. Both of Chris’s interceptions were huge. ” — Randy Jackson

Did you know? Jackson, in his first year as head coach, moved Smith from safety to corner before the season because of a lack of depth. Jackson praised Smith’s versatility, saying, “We joked around with him yesterday that I was going to move him to offense.”
