Boys basketball player of the week (1/7): Garland Christian's Chase Davis
What he did: Davis scored 47 points to lead Garland Christian to a 75-73 overtime victory against Lakehill. He scored 30 of his team’s 35 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. He also added 17 rebounds.
Who is he? A 6-foot-6 senior guard/forward.
The stats: He is averaging 28 points, 15.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season.
He said it: “It means more when you know it actually contributed to a hard-fought win, where our team really came together and pulled it out. So it definitely means more.”
Coach said it: “He’s got a total game. If you need him to post up and get more inside, he’s got great post-up moves but yet, he can work the outside perimeter. It’s just hard unless you got [a guy] as big as him or bigger, and usually he’s quicker than those guys.” — Rex Burnett
Did you know? Davis had a 53-point game and another 47-point game earlier this year but Burnett said those came in blowouts. … Davis has been the 2013 class president since his freshman year. He is also involved in the National Honor Society and his local church. He is averaging 28 points, 15.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game .
