Carrollton Creekview hurdler Samantha Gonzalez finishes fifth at IAAF World Youth Championships

Carrollton Creekview's Samantha Gonzalez finished fifth for the United States in the women's 400-meter hurdles at the IAAF World Youth Championships with a time of 59.74 seconds. Helene Swanepoel improved her own world youth-leading performance to win gold in 58.08 and became the first South African to win gold in a girls sprint event at the World Youth Championships.

In the women's pole vault, Justin Northwest's Desiree Freier cleared 3.95 meters/12 feet, 11 inches to finish ninth and Grapevine's Zoe McKinley cleared 3.80/12-5 to take 11th. Fifteen-year-old Robeilys Peinado from Venezuela won by clearing 4.25 meters.
