Arlington Martin, Southlake Carroll in final national baseball rankings; Rockwall deserves some appreciation
It was a tough year, at least at the state level, for area baseball teams. There were no local state champions in any UIL classification.
There were several very good teams, however, and Arlington Martin and Southlake Carroll each made it into the final national top 50 in MaxPreps.com's baseball rankings.
Martin was 33rd. Carroll, which lost to Martin in the 5A Region I final, was 34th.
The top Texas team in the rankings was The Woodlands at No. 5. Rockwall certainly deserves some recognition for the way it pushed the eventual state champions in the 5A Region II final.
The Woodlands only had one loss in the playoffs - and it was to Rockwall, 7-1, in Game 2 of a best-of-3 series in the regional final. Rockwall led in every game of the series. In Game 1, Rockwall had a 3-0 lead after five innings but The Woodlands busted out in the sixth inning and won 12-5. In Game 3, Rockwall led 6-1 in the third inning before another big inning from The Woodlands helped it roll to a 12-6 victory.
