Richardson Pearce softball team working on best season ever
It's been a nice season so far for the Richardson Pearce softball team. For the first time ever, according to coach Nick Raya, Pearce is at the top of a district race as the second round of district begins.
Pearce is 7-1 in District 9-5A, tied with Lake Highlands.
More from Raya:
We have set a record for run-ruling district teams. Senior captain/pitcher Olivia Red has already set the record for home runs by a Pearce player, with six. Pearce has two tournament championships this season, including the Kaitlin Seidel Memorial tournament and the Cowtown tourney. This is the first year that a Pearce softball player has ever hit a grand slam. Her name is Rexi Munier. We are on pace for the most district wins ever in Pearce history. The record is eight district wins and we will eclipse that with two more wins. Senior Evelyn Aldridge has not made an error in centerfield all year and has already set a record in batting average for a Pearce centerfielder. Junior catcher Caitlin Arnett has thrown out a record six base runners this season. Sisters Hannah and Madeline Wallace, who transferred to Pearce last year, are leading the team offensively (Hannah) and defensively (Madeline), respectively. Freshman Izzy Fanucci is on pace to become freshman of the year, with her on-base percentage over .800. Junior Maggie Plum, in her first year playing softball, has had several game-tying and game-breaking hits. Lastly, Breslyn Kurta has switched to the left side of the plate, and as a result, been instrumental in several come backs.
