Jesuit counters in game two with shutout of Rockwall to force rubber match
ROCKWALL - Jesuit senior pitcher Chris Muller pitched a three-hitter in a 4-0 victory over Rockwall to force a deciding game in a best-of-3 Class 5A area playoff series.
Jesuit (25-9) got a two-run single by senior Charlie Young for a 2-0 lead in the fourth as Jesuit took advantage of three walks and an error in a game delayed by lightning strikes. Jesuit took a 3-0 lead as senior Darius Hill had a triple in the fifth and scored on a single by DH Grant Reuben. Sophomore catcher Bryce Bonner lined a home run to left for a run in the sixth.
Muller, following his sophomore brother Kyle who started Game 1, kept the usually hard-hitting Rockwall (25-9) in check. Muller (10-1) allowed only two hits through five innings as Jesuit built its lead and had faced only batter over the minimum. Muller had five strikeouts in the first three innings and, with the help of a double play, didn’t allow a runner to reach second in the first five innings. With eight strikeouts against Rockwall, Muller also threw a six-hit shutout in the first round of the playoffs against Plano East.
With 13-consecutive seasons in the playoffs, Rockwall won Game 1 (12-6). Game 3 is 11 a.m. Saturday at Jesuit.
