South Grand Prairie vs. Cedar Hill
Jovan Austin scored a game-high 20 points to lead South Grand Prairie to a 54-34 victory over Cedar Hill on Tuesday in a matchup of state-ranked Class 5A boys teams.
South Grand Prairie (23-2, 6-0), ranked third in the state, grabbed sole possession of first place in District 5-5A, moving one game ahead of 19th-ranked Cedar Hill (17-7, 5-1). The score was tied at halftime, but SGP outscored Cedar Hill, 21-8, in the third quarter to seize control
Zach LeDay, The Colony, forward: Scored 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the state’s third-ranked 4A team beat Wichita Falls, 83-47. Kendall Jones had 16 points and 15 assists for The Colony (23-3, 5-0 District 4-4A).
Eric Murray, North Mesquite, guard: Made a game-winning layup with about four seconds left in the second overtime in a 48-47 win over Mesquite. North Mesquite trailed by five in the final minute. King Davis’ four-point play cut North Mesquite’s deficit to one.
AJ Moutry, McKinney, guard: Scored 28 points in an 83-54 victory against Wylie.
Darius Revels, Richardson Pearce, point guard: Made six 3-pointers and scored 24 points in a 61-54 win over Rockwall-Heath.
D.J. Foster, Lancaster, forward: Had 20 points and nine rebounds as District 15-4A leader Lancaster beat second-place West Mesquite, 91-64.
Jasmia Beasley, Carter, post: Had 20 points and 15 rebounds in a 69-61 win over South Oak Cliff. Alexus Mason had 25 points and seven steals for Carter.
Stabresa McDaniel, Skyline, forward: Scored 29 points as the state’s 15th-ranked 5A team beat Lake Highlands, 65-39. Shaletha Mayberry scored 29 for Lake Highlands.
Meg Boutwell, Flower Mound, guard: Made two free throws with about five seconds left to give Flower Mound a 59-57 win vs. Hebron.
Jordan Jones, DeSoto, point guard: The Texas A&M signee scored 22 points — 15 in the third quarter — as the state’s 10th-ranked 5A team, beat Tyler Lee, 73-54, and gained sole possession of first place in District 11-5A.
Mariah Mitchell, McKinney, guard: Scored 26 points in a 56-47 win over Wylie that knocked Wylie out of a tie for first in District 10-4A
15: Consecutive wins for the Duncanville girls. The state’s third-ranked 5A team beat Mansfield Legacy, 71-21, on Tuesday.
8: Dunks by Coppell’s Jett Raines in a 72-37 win over Saginaw. He finished with 22 points.
6: Number of players who scored in double figures for the Richardson Berkner boys as the state’s 13th-ranked 5A team beat Sunset, 102-52.
Big second half: Point guard Maya Hawkins scored 12 of her game-high 14 points in the second half to help the Mansfield Summit girls remain alone in first place in District 7-4A with a 39-34 win over Arlington Seguin. Summit (24-3, 8-0), ranked fourth in the state in 4A, trailed by three at halftime before outscoring 21st-ranked Seguin, 13-4, in the third quarter. Summit stayed one game ahead of Granbury in 7-4A.
Briefly: The Rockwall girls, ranked 14th in the state in 4A, led by two entering the fourth quarter and held on for a 46-40 win vs. Highland Park. It gave Rockwall (23-6, 7-1) sole possession of first in District 10-4A. … Lindsey Oh had 15 points and 10 rebounds as Plano West (26-2, 8-0), the state’s seventh- ranked 5A girls team, kept a two-game lead in 8-5A with a 72-35 win vs. Lewisville.
Matt Jones, DeSoto: Jones, a junior who has committed to Duke, scored 21 points as the state’s sixth-ranked 5A team beat Tyler Lee, 50-31. The score was tied at halftime before DeSoto outscored Tyler Lee, 36-17, in the second half.
Shannon Malone, Flower Mound Marcus: The Wisconsin signee had six points and 10 rebounds to help Marcus (17-11, 6-2 District 8-5A) to a 39-29 win over Plano East (19-9, 5-3), the area’s 10th-ranked 5A team. Marcus avenged last month’s 72-52 loss to Plano East.
