Shiner St. Paul completes undefeated season with victory over Coll. Covenant

KILLEEN - Shiner St. Paul completed an undefeated season and won the school's fourth state championship with a 48-41 victory over Colleyville Covenant Christian in the TAPPS Division IV final Saturday afternoon at Leo Buckley Stadium.

St. Paul (14-0) took a 41-34 lead with 3:19 remaining with an 80-yard scoring drive, then increased its lead to 48-34 less than two minutes later after Colleyville Covenant (10-3) fumbled an attempted reverse on a kickoff.

Colleyville Covenant scored on a 7-yard pass to Jordan Cross from quarterback Chase Stewart with 16 seconds remaining to pull within seven points, but it wasn't able to recover an onside kick.

Stewart rushed for 123 yards and passed for 220 yards and four touchdowns. Four turnovers helped prevent Covenant from winning its second state title in five seasons.
