Fort Worth Nolan wins 21st straight game, beating Pilot Point 36-29

PILOT POINT - Alex Sauza rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns, quarterback Michael Smith added 127 rushing yards and two scores, and Fort Worth Nolan Catholic defeated Pilot Point, 36-29, in a thriller at Massey Stadium.

Nolan trailed, 22-21, in the fourth quarter before Sauza scored on runs of 3 and 41 yards.

Pilot Point (1-3) pulled within seven points on Austin Trinklein's sliding 20-yard touchdown catch from J.P. Price, but Nolan recovered the onside-kick attempt and ran out the final 2:35 of the game. Sauza's exhilarating 45-yard run through several tackles practically iced the contest.

Price finished 21-of-34 passing for 285 yards and three touchdowns. He also found Austin Balderas and Ricky Campbell on touchdown passes and ran in Pilot Point's other score on a 5-yard run.

Nolan had to overcome 162 penalty yards. Several penalties extended Pilot Point drives.

Nolan opened the scoring. Smith took an option keeper 13 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter.

Pilot Point responded. Price directed an 18-play, 80-yard drive that chewed up 7:55 of the clock. Price finished it with a 5-yard run on a pass-run option play to the right.

Pilot Point lined up in the swinging gate formation on the extra point, and Mason Guthrie took a pitch and squeezed into the end zone to give Pilot Point an 8-7 lead that stood until halftime.
