Euless Trinity 56, Irving Nimitz 7
BEDFORD - No. 1 state-ranked Euless Trinity (8-0, 6-0) scored seven rushing touchdowns in the first half to crush Irving Nimitz (3-4, 1-3) in District 6-5A.
Paul Tuipulotu scored on a 35-yard run on Trinity's first possession. On Trinity's next two drives, Brandon Carter and Terrence Tusan scored from 35 and 6 yards before Nimitz even had a first down.
Late in the first quarter, Nimitz finally generated some offense. But the drive stalled near midfield, where on 4th-and-1, Adam Charles threw an interception that Brian Nance ran back 44 yards for a score, putting Trinity up, 28-0.
The second quarter opened in similar fashion, as Carter ran for a 48-yard score and Sivad Boykin ran it in from 12 yards out. Joel Kimpela scored on rushes of 22 and 62 yards to round out the scoring for Trinity.
Nimitz drove to the Trinity 14 near the end of the first half, but missed a field-goal attempt.
After a scoreless third quarter, Nimitz got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter on a 23-yard rush by KJ Drennon.
Trinity was led by Carter, who ran for 91 yards on only three carries and threw for 44 yards, and Kimpela, who finished with 84 yards on only two carries, both of which went for touchdowns.
Nimitz got 63 receiving yards from Glenn McQuinney.
With the win, Trinity clinched a playoff berth. The game marks the fourth time this year that Trinity has scored more than 50 points, and the seventh time it has scored more than 40.
