Boys basketball player of the week (1/14): Richardson Berkner's Soma Edo
RICHARDSON BERKNER’S SOMA EDO
What he did: Edo scored 41 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in two games. He had 23 points and six rebounds against W.T. White on Tuesday, and he posted 18 points and 14 rebounds in a win over rival Richardson on Friday as Berkner moved into first place in District 9-5A
Who is he? A 6-5 senior forward
The stats: Edo is averaging 17.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game this season.
He said it: “My goal is to end my senior year off right. It’s just me and Kendal [Yancy-Harris]. That’s the only seniors we have. We’ve got to put trust in our team and everything we got to do, we’ve got to do it right. We’ve got to put Berkner on the map basically.”
Coach said it: “He’s always been a leader but he’s kind of changed his leadership style a little bit. He’s become a more vocal [leader]. He always led by example, but now he’s really trying to mentor the young guys and really trying to make the team better.” — Jason Petty
Did you know? Edo has signed with Fresno State. … He took up high jumping last year and probably would have made it to the state meet had he not injured his ankle.
