Baseball player of the week (4/8): Frisco Liberty's Hayden Parker
What he did: In Frisco Liberty’s two wins this week, Parker went 3-for-7 with two RBIS, three runs and a triple. He also stole six bases. In Liberty’s 6-5 win over The Colony on Thursday, Parker came in to pitch three innings, allowing only one run.
Who is he? A 6-0 senior pitcher and center fielder.
The stats: Parker is hitting .422 this season and has 31 stolen bases. On the mound, he’s 4-1, allowing just six earned runs (1.45 ERA) while striking out 42.
He said it: “[I’m] just getting good jumps [when stealing bases] and making sure I’m going in good counts, just having that [knowledge] of the pitcher and their tendencies and what they like to do while holding on the runners.”
Coach said it: “He’s the heart and soul of our team. He’s kind of that quiet leader. He’s a kid that gets up at five o’clock every morning and goes to church. He just leads by example.” — Scott McGarrh
Did you know? Parker is one steal away from the school’s season record. As a sophomore, Parker’s baserunning prowess allowed him to first crack the lineup as the team’s courtesy runner. … He has signed to play at Brigham Young.
