Softball player of the week (3/25): Flower Mound Marcus' Hannah Null
What she did: Null racked up 33 strikeouts in two wins over top-10 teams in the SportsDay 5A area rankings. She struck out 17 in a 4-0 win Tuesday over No. 9 Denton Ryan and 16 in a 2-0 win Friday over No. 4 Lewisville. The wins kept Marcus undefeated at 19-0-1.
Who is she? A senior pitcher who is signed to play for Abilene Christian.
The stats: This season Null is 12-0 with an 0.00 ERA and 173 strikeouts in 78 innings.
She said it: “[Against] Denton Ryan we had the bases loaded and no outs, that was probably the most stressful situation. I ended with three strikeouts. I feel like that was kind of the test for myself, and I got out of it. I feel like I have more confidence now from that.”
Coach said it: “She’s gotten more and more control over different pitches, and we’ve always talked about the importance of the changeup. She’s just got great control over it this year. Hannah’s the type of player that she’s very competitive and she wants to do her best all the time. She works very, very, very hard to be her best, so I’m happy for her. I’m glad that she’s going to see that hard work pay off.” — Christy Tumilty
Did you know? Null has been on varsity since her freshman year. … She said she also added a rise ball this year, which has contributed to her increased number of strikeouts. Marcus was ranked No. 5 in the country in last week’s MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Softball Rankings.
