Everman 21, Arlington Seguin 20

EVERMAN - Terrance Cook's 55-yard scoring run with just over seven minutes remaining provided the winning margin as Everman slipped past Arlington Seguin, 21-20, in a District 7-4A game Friday night at Marr Stadium.

Cook, a freshman running back, had 99 yards rushing on eight carries to lead Everman, ranked No. 7 in SportsDay's Class 4A area poll.

Leading 21-14 with three minutes left, Everman (3-2, 2-0) was stopped on fourth-and-2 at midfield. Seguin (3-2, 1-1), ranked No. 16, took advantage of the failed gamble and marched 52 yards, scoring on a 13-yard run by Jordan Hicks to cut the deficit to 21-20. On the conversion, Seguin lined up to kick and tried a fake that failed.

The ensuing onside kick was recovered by Seguin with 1:13 left in the game. After Seguin recorded one first down, Everman's defense held as Antonio Williams broke up a pass on fourth-and-10 to clinch the win.
