Cross country: Argyle senior wins 3A state title
ROUND ROCK -- Argyle senior Jake Roberts won the Class 3A state boys cross country title on Saturday at Old Settlers Park.
The Sanger boys finished second as a team in the same race, while Sanger placed sixth on the girls side. Both finishes were the best in school history for Sanger.
Roberts, who ran as an individual, won the event with a time of 15:31, almost four seconds ahead of runner-up Paul Hansel of Cuero.
The top finisher for the Sanger boys was Colt Carlton (18th) with a time of 16:36, followed by Marcus Richroath (24th) in 16:48, Derek Key (32nd) in 17:02, Grayson CeBallos (42nd ) in 17:13 and Brandon Bernal (63rd) in 17:35. John Whitfield and Sacha Shannon finished 69th and 70th, respectively.
The Sanger girls top finisher was Kortney CeBallos (20th) with a time of 12:22, followed by Allie Millican (50th) in 12:44, Allison Faircloth (57th) in 12:53, Keily Masters (58 th) in 12:53 and Monica Verdin (70th) in 13:08. Brittney Smith and Ashlyn Lee finished 81st and 85th, respectively.
In the Class 5A girls race, Guyer freshman Devin Norton finished 11 th overall in 11:24. Norton, competing as an individual, was the first Guyer runner to qualify for the state meet.
