Jesuit track coach Bob Molyet leaving to become football coach at California high school

Jesuit track and cross country coach Bob Molyet, who is also the assistant athletic director,  is leaving to become the head football coach and assistant AD at Xavier College Prep in Palm Desert, Calif.

Molyet was at Jesuit for 16 years and has served as the head track coach since 2002.

"One of the highlights has been watching the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays grow every year," Molyet said. "That was a great thing to be a part of and be in charge of every year. My staff took unbelievable pride in running that event."

Molyet, 51, was wooed to Xavier by former Jesuit hockey coach Mark Campbell, who took over as Xavier's athletic director last year.

The new job will be Molyet's first as a head football coach. He previously served as a video coordinator at the college level and was an assistant for many years at Jesuit.

"It's going to be a lot of work," Molyet said. "They're an extremely young program and I have no delusions of grandeur that it's going to transform overnight. But that's part of the challenge that I'm looking forward to."

Molyet's track team sent two competitors to state last weekend. Paden Gatlin won silver in the discus, and Ryan Mehl took seventh in the 110-meter hurdles.
