30-yard TD with just over a minute left lifts Hebron over Keller Fossil Ridge, 30-23

LEWISVILLE — With just over a minute left in the game between Hebron and Keller Fossil Ridge, the teams were tied at 23 and Hebron faced 2nd-and-15. Hebron coach Brian Brazil called a timeout.

The next play was a toss to left for Jamal Adams. He found a hole and went 30 yards for the winning score as Hebron beat Fossil Ridge, 30-23 on Friday night.

“We didn’t call anything special, same play we’d been running” Brazil said. “It didn’t look real pretty as far as the way the thing developed, but he just found a crease and made the play.”

Twenty-nine seconds into the game, the score was 7-7 as both teams traded kickoff returns for touchdowns. They were the only touchdowns of the half.

Hebron’s defense allowed Fossil Ridge, which was averaging 54 points a game, one drive of more than four plays in the half. Fossil Ridge’s defense allowed two drives inside the Fossil Ridge 5-yard line but held them to field goals both times.

Hebron (2-1) took a 16-10 lead into halftime, but only because of Fossil Ridge had both an interception return touchdown and a punt return touchdowns called back due to penalty.

In the third, Fossil Ridge (2-1) used a series of quick passes to drive 78 yards for a touchdown, but Hebron blocked the extra point to leave the game tied at 16.

Hebron responded with an 11-play drive that stretched into the fourth quarter to take the lead back.

After the teams traded touchdowns, Hebron retuned a short kickoff to midfield. Eight straight runs, including a 3rd-and-2 conversion off of a bobbled snap got Hebron into Fossil Ridge territory.
