Corbett Smith's Week 1 Dallas-area high school football predictions

Hebron vs. Mansfield Timberview

Mansfield’s Vernon Newsom Stadium, 7 p.m. Thursday: Two notable transfers — Treyvon Hughes and Cedric Dale — combined for three TDs for Hebron (1-0) in a 37-7 win over Abilene. Safety Edward Paris (an LSU pledge) had a 67-yard interception return score for Timberview (1-0) in its 49-14 win over Mansfield Summit. Hebron 38, Mansfield Timberview 21

Trophy Club Byron Nelson vs. Frisco

Coppell vs. McKinney Boyd

McKinney’s Ron Poe Stadium: Coppell (1-0) didn’t sparkle in Zero Week, but its 32-24 win over Longview showed character — rallying back for 20 consecutive fourth-quarter points. Dedrick Scrivens might be the heir apparent to replace Air Force RB Bryan Driskell at Boyd (0-1), rushing for 217 yards and four scores last week. Coppell 42, McKinney Boyd 21

Fort Worth Nolan at Argyle

Argyle’s Eagle Stadium: Nolan (0-1) is still stinging after a failed two-point attempt in the final minute led to a 29-28 loss to Arlington Seguin. Argyle (1-0) trounced Abilene Wylie, 38-0, with Texas Tech pledge Ian Sadler scoring twice. Argyle 35, FW Nolan 14

Mesquite vs. Arlington Bowie

Arlington’s Wilemon Field: This game was the turning point for both teams last season, with Mesquite (1-0) beginning its magical 2012 run and Bowie (1-0) losing QB Keaton Perry to injury — and finding do-everything Tony James in the process. Expect James to be more involved this week, rushing, receiving and passing. Arlington Bowie 28, Mesquite 20

Sunset vs. Adamson

Kincaide Stadium: Two of Dallas ISD’s oldest programs face off in what’s being called the “Original Oak Cliff Super Bowl.” Last year’s meeting, only the second since 1979, wasn’t much of a game, with Sunset (0-0) committing five turnovers in a 33-5 win for Adamson (1-0). Adamson 27, Sunset 13

West Mesquite vs. Wylie

Wylie ISD Stadium: West Mesquite (0-1) came unraveled a bit in Zero Week, with five turnovers resulting in a 20-7 loss to Rockwall-Heath. QB/WR Kameron Kelly was all over the field for Wylie (0-1) against Sachse, scoring three times. Its defense couldn’t hold, however, as Sachse scored the final 22 points in a 56-52 loss. Wylie 35, West Mesquite 28

Tulsa (Okla.) Union vs. DeSoto

Southlake’s Dragon Stadium, 4 p.m. Saturday: Eight-time Oklahoma state champ Tulsa Union will have its hands full in its season opener. DeSoto (1-0) looks like the main challenger to Allen for the 5A Division I title. Last week, QB Desmon White passed for two scores and rushed for three more in a 46-7 win over Arlington Martin. DeSoto 49, Tulsa Union 24

Lancaster vs. Tyler John Tyler

Tyler’s Rose Stadium, 7:30 p.m. Saturday: One of these teams — both ranked in the preseason AP Class 4A Top 10 — will leave this game with an 0-2 record. Lancaster (0-1) allowed 504 total yards in a 38-27 loss to South Oak Cliff. John Tyler (0-1) allowed 16 sacks in a 52-28 loss to Lufkin. John Tyler 28, Lancaster 21

Jenks (Okla.) vs. Euless Trinity

Southlake’s Dragon Stadium, 8 p.m. Saturday: Defending Oklahoma 6A state champion Jenks had a rough introduction to Dallas-Fort Worth area football last season, losing to DeSoto, 46-27, in its season opener. Trinity (0-0) will have plenty of size up front, but the question will be the play of its quarterbacks: Christian Hammack and Deion Guignard.

Euless Trinity 24, Jenks 21
