Zero Week 3A/2A/Privates roundup: Argyle takes charge vs. Abilene Wylie
Argyle 38, Abilene Wylie 0
ABILENE — Argyle dominated Friday’s matchup of state-ranked Class 3A contenders, controlling both sides of the ball in a convincing 38-0 season-opening win over Abilene Wylie at Bulldog Stadium.
Argyle (1-0, ranked 5th in 3A) never trailed in the contest, forcing six turnovers on defense while scoring touchdowns in every quarter against Wylie (ranked 10th in 3A).
Ian Sadler, Brandon Boyzuick and Nick Ralston all had first-half touchdowns, with kicker Cole Hedlund crushing a 57-yard field goal at the end of the first half for a 24-0 halftime lead.
Bonham 21, Pilot Point 20
PILOT POINT — Pilot Point’s mistakes allowed Bonham to hang around long enough Friday for Dra Smith to steal the road victory.
Smith scored on a 4-yard run with 1:07 left and then ran in the two-point try to lift Bonham to the 21-20 victory over Pilot Point at Massey Stadium.
With his team down 20-13, Smith got the ball at his 35-yard line with 1:36 remaining. On first down, he connected with Greg Moses for 56 yards to get the ball to the Pilot Point 9. One play later Smith dashed around the right end to the end zone to make it 20-19.
Bonham coach Cody Bounds elected to try for two, and Smith ran around the end to pay dirt to give his team its lone lead of the night.
Anna 42, Life Oak Cliff 14
ANNA — Isaac Armijo had a breakout game as the sophomore rushed for 163 yards and scored four touchdowns in Anna’s season-opener at home against Dallas Life. He had all of his yards by the end of the third quarter.
Anna scored on its first possession when Armijo took the ball around the end and scored from almost mid-field. Anna never trailed.
Madison 28, Sanger 6
MADISON — Led by 128 yards from running back Trey Gardener, Madison opened the season with a convincing win over Sanger.
Cooper 42, Farmersville 7
COOPER — Darmarcus Robinson had a 90-yard kick return and rushed for 148 yards and two first-quarter scores as Cooper amassed 443 yards, all on the ground, to defeat Farmersville.
Ferris 20, Godley 15
GODLEY — Ferris squeezed past Godley on a fourth quarter 70-yard pass from Javaughn Thurmon to Darius Rouwtt. Ferris dominated the passing game all night, outthrowing Godley by a 127-37 margin.
Muenster 35, Ponder 6
MUENSTER — Muenster blew past Ponder thanks to a heavy rushing game and two fumble recoveries. The Muenster defense held Ponder to only one completion for seven yards.
Frisco Lone Star 48, FW Castleberry 14
FRISCO — Chase Moake threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another score to help lead Frisco Lone Star to victory.
Pottsboro 20, Aubrey 9
POTTSBORO — Aubrey struggled offensively in its opener, falling to Pottsboro.
Aubrey could muster only a 29-yard field goal by Evan Moore in the first half, then scored in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run by Mason Robinson.
