McKinney receiver T.V. Williams commits to Kentucky

After narrowing his college choices to five finalists, McKinney wide receiver T.V. Williams orally committed to Kentucky on Tuesday. The other finalists were Oregon State, Nebraska, Iowa and Houston.

Williams (5-9, 143) caught 45 passes for 789 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Oral commitments are nonbinding. Feb. 5 is the first day that a football player in the Class of 2014 can sign a national letter of intent.

Wakeland OLB settles on Northwestern

Just a week after naming SMU his favorite school, Frisco Wakeland outside linebacker Noah Westerfield (6-3, 205) decided to commit to Northwestern.

Westerfield’s other options included Boise State, Duke and Wake Forest.


Justin Northwest’s Desiree Freier, who set the UIL state meet record in the pole vault this past season, will compete for Team USA in the IAAF World Youth Championships Wednesday through Sunday in Donetsk, Ukraine. Samantha Gonzalez from Carrollton Creekview will compete in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, and Zoe McKinley from Grapevine will join Freier in the women’s pole vault.

Flower Mound pitcher Annelise Oswalt said she has orally committed to play softball for Texas Tech. Oswalt was the District 5-5A co-MVP as a sophomore last season.
