Former Plano East football coach Johnny Ringo is new Highland Park ISD athletic director

Former Plano East football coach and athletic coordinator Johnny Ringo is the new athletic director for the Highland Park ISD.

"I look forward to joining the academic/athletic excellence that already exists at HPISD," Ringo said in a text message."

In April, Ringo announced his resignation from Plano East, where he was the football coach and campus athletic coordinator for nine seasons. Plano East has since hired former Mesquite Poteet coach Randy Jackson.

Randy Allen will remain Highland Park's football coach and be the boys athletic coordinator for the campus.

In May, the Highland Park ISD created a new athletic director position that would oversee athletic programs from grades 7 to 12 starting with the 2013-14 school year.

"The growth in both student enrollment and participation over the last 10 years has resulted in a substantial increase in responsibility for our athletic administrators," Highland Park ISD superintendent Dawson Orr said in a news release. "I am confident that this reorganization will provide the continued program support to students, parents and coaches that is needed to maintain HPISD's tradition of excellence."
