Softball roundup: Flower Mound Marcus walk-off win forces Game 3
COLLEYVILLE — Ashley Hardin’s seventh-inning heroics allowed Flower Mound Marcus to live another day.
The junior center fielder lined a single up the middle to score two runs in the top of the seventh, leading Marcus to a 3-2 victory over Keller in Game 2 of their Class 5A Region I semifinal series.
Hardin was 0-for-3 in her first three trips to the plate Friday at Colleyville Heritage. She’d already gotten out twice after swinging at the first pitch, but that didn’t stop her from doing it one more time.
She sent Keller pitcher Kaylee Rogers’ first offering back up the middle to score Kelly McGuire and Dani Warne. Hardin was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double, but not before Marcus (30-7-1) took its first lead since the first inning.
The Marcus victory sets up a decisive Game 3 at 7:15 p.m. Saturday in Colleyville.
Marcus pitcher Hannah Null gave up two runs and three hits in a seven-inning effort. She struck out six batters and retired Keller in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Keller (30-5-1) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Shelby Henderson came up with a clutch two-out single to score Kaitlyn Alderink. The lead didn’t last long, though.
Marcus eight-hole hitter Jordan Gundersen was hit by a pitch to start the seventh, and Warne singled to set up Hardin’s go-ahead hit.
The game was delayed by lightning in the fifth and sixth innings.
