Softball player of the week (5/13): Lovejoy’s Brittany Lewis
What she did: Lewis suffered a deep bruise on the pinkie on her glove hand in practice Wednesday, but she helped Lovejoy win a Region II quarterfinal series against Ennis, the state’s third-ranked Class 4A team. Lewis was the winning pitcher and allowed one run in Lovejoy’s 2-1 victory in Game 1. Then in Game 3, Lewis scored two runs and went 4-for-4 with three doubles to lead Lovejoy to a 10-2 win. She was 6-for-8 in the series to help Lovejoy (30-8) advance to a regional semifinal matchup with Frisco Centennial.
Who is she? A senior pitcher who has signed with Stephen F. Austin.
The stats: Lewis is 19-2 with a 1.88 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 1261/3 innings. Lewis is hitting .625 with 62 RBIs. She has 16 doubles, one triple and 10 home runs.
She said it: “It was pretty painful,” Lewis said of her pinkie injury. “But I made it work. The trainers were all awesome. I always knew I was going to play.”

Did you know? Lewis wants to be an elementary school teacher and softball coach.
