Flower Mound Marcus uses stellar pitching to advance past Mansfield Timberview, into regional quarterfinals
FORT WORTH — Flower Mound Marcus will be tough to beat in the postseason if Hannah Null keeps up this pace.
The senior pitcher has yet to allow an earned run in five postseason games. She limited Mansfield Timberview to two hits in a 4-2 victory at Brewer High on Saturday as Marcus won Game 3 to clinch the best-of-3 area-round series.
“She’s showing her maturity right now as a senior,” Marcus coach Christy Tumilty said. “We didn’t make the playoffs last year, and I think she really grew a lot. She’s really showing that growth and maturity for us now.”
Marcus (27-5-1) advances to face District 5-5A rival Flower Mound in the regional quarterfinals, with the schedule and sites to be determined. Flower Mound swept Marcus in the two-game district series.
Null, who signed with Abilene Christian, struck out 13 and walked one. She gave up an unearned run in the second inning and another in the sixth.
In five postseason starts, she’s tallied a perfect game, a no-hitter and five complete games while yielding four unearned runs.
Center fielder Ashley Hardin put Marcus in front with a two-run home run in the third inning. She fouled off four pitches before sending Mariah Denson’s 3-2 offering over the right-field wall.
Bonna Molina added an RBI single for Marcus in the fourth, and Jordan Gundersen drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Timberview ended its season 24-6-1.
