Plano East football coach, athletic director Johnny Ringo to resign June 30
Johnny Ringo announced Monday that he will resign his position as athletic director and football coach at Plano East on June 30.
"The District has made a decision to go in a different direction with the athletic program serving the east side of Plano that includes a change in my position as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach," Ringo said in a statement. "As a result, I will resign from my current position on June 30, 2013. To help facilitate the transition, I feel it is in the best interest of our coaches and athletes to step aside beginning April 29th so the district can focus on finding my replacement."
A search is now under way for a new AD and football coach, the release said. Defensive coordinator Ty Patrick will serve as the interim head coach.
"Coach Ringo did a really good job for us," Plano ISD athletic director Gerald Brence told SportsDayHS. Brence deferred further comment to Plano ISD's communications department.
Plano East will still have spring football practice, Brence said.
Ringo coached nine seasons at Plano East and compiled a 51-46 record. East made five playoff appearances in his nine seasons.
East missed the playoffs in 2012 after going 5-4 overall and 1-4 in district.
"I am honored to have been a part of the great staff at Plano East and have enjoyed working with these fantastic teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators these past ten years," Ringo said.
