Plano East holds off Hebron in softball

Jena Konieczka and Sarah Morales each homered and had two RBIs to lead the Plano East softball team to a 10-8 win over Hebron. It was a rematch of last season’s Class 5A Region I final, which Plano East won, 5-4, to reach the state tournament.

Hebron trailed 10-3 before scoring three runs in the sixth and two more in the bottom of the seventh. Hebron had the potential tying run at the plate when the game ended.

Destiny Garza was 3-for-3 and scored three runs for Plano East. Erinn Hill homered and had four RBIs for Hebron, Mississippi Valley State signee Deja Talton homered, and Florida signee Chelsea Herndon was 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

Freshman Brittney Larkin pitched a five-hit shutout to lead the Keller softball team to a 10-0 win over Keller Central. Larkin is 7-0 for Keller (13-2-1, 2-0 District 4-5A), which is ranked 10th in the state in 5A.

Walk-off homer

Jasmine Frausto hit a game-winning three-run home run with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Frisco softball team a 4-2 win over Frisco Wakeland. Frisco improved to 15-3 with the win over Wakeland, which has reached at least the regional semifinals the last five years.

Oklahoma State pledge Taylor Lynch homered and had four RBIs as Red Oak beat Arlington Seguin, 12-0, in softball. Red Oak also got home runs from Lindsey Cargile and Marlene Dickert. … Elizabeth Burroughs doubled twice and homered as Lake Highlands beat Richardson, 21-5, in softball. Lake Highlands had 23 hits in the win.

TUESDAY’S STANDOUTS

BASEBALL

Tyler Alexander, Southlake Carroll: The TCU signee struck out 17, allowed only four hits and one run and didn't walk anyone in seven innings of work as Carroll beat Keller Central, 7-1. Carroll -- No. 5 in the latest 5A state rankings -- scored six runs in the the top of the eighth to win it. Carroll pitchers had 19 strikeouts in all, as Sean Thompson struck out two in the eighth.

Dakota Liles, South Grand Prairie: Hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fifth that was the game-winning hit as South Grand Prairie (7-7, 1-0 District 7-5A) beat Mansfield, 3-2.

Ryan Kinney, Rockwall-Heath: Pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 to lead Rockwall-Heath to an 8-3 victory against Rockwall. Heath (8-4, 1-0 District 12-5A), last year's Class 4A state champion, got a home run from R.J. Williams.

Brandon Maine, Richland: Threw a two-hitter and struck out 11 in a 2-1 win over Keller Fossil Ridge.

Keenan Wingfield, Lake Dallas: The senior allowed only three hits and struck out 11 in a 2-1 victory over Denton.

Johnny Morin, Jesuit: Struck out 12 in an 8-1 win over Skyline.

SOFTBALL

Taylor Maliska, Ennis: The junior pitched a one-hit shutout to lead Ennis to a 9-0 win over Waxahachie, the state's 12th-ranked 4A team. Courtlyn Benitez had a double, triple and home run for Ennis (13-4, 2-0 District 15-4A).

Hannah Null, Flower Mound Marcus: Null (8-0) pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 18 in an 8-0 win over Allen. Flower Mound Marcus (13-0) is ranked No. 1 in the state in 5A and is No. 12 in the MaxPreps national rankings.

Selena Mendoza, Mesquite Poteet: Was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, home run, four runs scored and five RBIs in a 17-2 win over West Mesquite. Arkansas pledge Madison Yannetti was 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Poteet (11-7, 1-0 District 10-4A).

Megan Washam, Denton Guyer: Was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs as Guyer (13-1-1) beat Azle, 7-1, in its District 5-4A opener. Guyer's Suzette Palmer (9-1) allowed one run in six innings.

14: Strikeouts for Lewisville pitcher Maribeth Gorsuch in a 4-2 win vs. McKinney Boyd in softball. Iowa pledge Erin Riding struck out 10 for Boyd.

Briana Walker, Mansfield Legacy: The Tulsa signee was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs as Legacy (14-4-1, 2-0 District 15-4A), the state's 11th-ranked 4A team, beat Mansfield Lake Ridge, 10-0.
