Girls basketball playoff roundup: Red Oak stuns McKinney North

Texas Tech signee Diamond Lockhart scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Red Oak girls basketball team to a 47-41 victory over state power McKinney North in a Class 4A second-round playoff game.

McKinney North (30-4), ranked eighth in the state, saw its winning streak end at 23 games. Red Oak (27-9), the No. 3 seed from District 15-4A, led by 11 entering the fourth quarter and held on to advance to a regional quarterfinal matchup with Arlington Seguin.

Class 5A

Duncanville 66, Hurst L.D. Bell 29: Ariel Atkins scored 21 points as defending 5A state champion Duncanville (37-0) extended its winning streak to 65 games. The state’s top-ranked team led, 20-2, at the end of the first quarter and will face Cedar Hill in the regional quarterfinals.

Plano West 75, Garland Naaman Forest 41: Natalie Chou scored 14 points as Plano West (35-3), the state’s eighth-ranked 5A team, advanced to play Mesquite Horn.

Mesquite Horn 52, Plano East 37: Lauren Bradshaw had 10 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks for Horn (25-6).

Skyline 56, Garland Lakeview 38: Marina Lilly had 13 points and nine rebounds, and Chrisalah Lyons and Dai’Ja Thomas also scored 13 for Skyline (28-9). The state’s 19th-ranked team next plays No. 21 Plano.

Plano 60, Rowlett 41: Seattle signee Wilma Afunugo had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Plano (26-7) outscored Rowlett, 16-5, in the fourth quarter.

Mansfield Timberview 67, Lewisville 49: Terriell Bradley scored 19 points as Timberview (31-5), the state’s 13th-ranked 5A team, moved on to face Flower Mound Marcus.

Flower Mound Marcus 47, Killeen Ellison 35: Vanessa Jones scored 13 points as Marcus (29-7) beat the state’s 11th-ranked 5A team.

Class 4A

The Colony 72, Woodrow Wilson 52: Libby Waddell scored 19 as The Colony (20-14), the No. 4 seed from District 9-4A, advanced to face Lincoln, the state’s second-ranked team.

Arlington Seguin 37, Lovejoy 31: Alarie Mayze had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Seguin (28-7), the state’s No. 17 team.

Mansfield Summit 61, Wylie 47: Taylor Jones scored 13 points to help defending 4A state champion Summit (22-12) advance.

Frisco Liberty 62, Bryan Adams 35: Bria Frierson scored 23 points — 18 in the first half — for the state’s ninth-ranked team. Liberty (33-5) advanced to play District 9-4A rival Frisco Heritage.

Frisco Heritage 57, Carter 37: Montoria Tripp scored 19 as Heritage (23-10), the No. 3 seed from District 9-4A, beat 11-4A champion Carter.
