Basketball replay: Wakeland boys, Duncanville girls remain undefeated

Wakeland wins matchup of state’s elite
The Frisco Wakeland boys improved to 14-0 with a 56-42 win against Denton Guyer, the state’s 12th-ranked Class 4A team.
Wakeland, ranked 22nd in the state, got 14 points from Josh Harris and 11 points from Sean Watkins. Guyer led, 11-9, at the end of the first quarter, but Harris scored seven of his team’s 20 points in the second quarter as Wakeland took a 29-26 lead into halftime.
The defending 5A state champion Duncanville girls improved to 17-0 by beating South Grand Prairie, 52-29, in their district opener. Tasia Foman and SMU signee Kiara Perry scored 12 apiece for the state’s No. 1-ranked 5A team.
The Rowlett boys, ranked third in the state in 5A, improved to 13-0 by beating Lovejoy, 65-56. Nebraska signee Nathan Hawkins had 21 points and seven rebounds, Oklahoma State signee Jeffrey Carroll had 18 points and seven rebounds, and Belmont signee Austin Luke had 15 points and five assists.
State power falls
Maya Hawkins scored 13 points, and Jazzmin Jackson had nine points and eight rebounds to lead the Mansfield Lake Ridge girls to a 45-43 win over Arlington Seguin, the state’s eighth-ranked 4A team. Hawkins and Jackson played for 4A state champion Mansfield Summit last season before moving to Lake Ridge (5-10, 1-0 in 15-4A), which opened this year. Hawkins was named MVP of the state final.
North Garland, wing: Scored 25 points — 23 in the second half and overtime — in a 70-65 win vs. Mesquite Poteet.
Richardson Berkner, forward: Scored 28 points to lead the state’s 11th-ranked 5A team to an 87-53 win against Lake Highlands. USC signee Kendal Harris scored 17 points for Berkner.
South Grand Prairie, guard: The Virginia Tech signee scored 21 points to help the state’s second-ranked 5A team beat Coppell, 63-57 in overtime. Coppell’s Simi Socks made a layup at the buzzer to force overtime.
Rockwall, guard: Scored 32 points in a 68-57 win vs. Garland Naaman Forest.
Richland, wing: The Oklahoma State signee scored 25 points as the state’s 18-th ranked 5A team beat 3A No. 2-ranked Madison, 67-56.
Little Elm, point guard: Had 27 points and 11 assists and was 7-of-7 from the free throw line in a 66-61 win vs. Allen.
Argyle, forward: Scored 27 points to lead defending 3A state champions to a 59-44 win over Sanger.
Triple A Academy, guard: Scored 22 points in a 68-64 overtime win over Madison. Baylor signee Breanna Hayden scored 34 for Madison.
Wylie East, forward: Had 29 points and eight rebounds in a 62-29 victory against Denison.
Highland Park, point guard: Scored 23 points — 18 in the first half — as Highland Park (10-3, 1-0 District 10-4A), the state’s 13th-ranked 4A team, beat Forney, 74-24.
Sunset, guard: Scored 30 in a 67-41win vs. W.T. White.
Skyline, forward: Had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in a 45-31 win over McKinney Boyd.
Richardson Berkner, guard: Scored 29 points in a 56-52 victory against Lake Highlands.
Rockwall, forward: Scored all 15 of her points in the second half, including two free throws with about 10 seconds left, in a 47-44 victory against Mesquite Horn.
Braylon Rayson, West Mesquite: The Central Michigan signee scored 25 points to lead West Mesquite (9-4), the state’s eighth-ranked 4A team, to an 82-70 win over Lancaster.
McKenzie Adams, Frisco Centennial: The Arkansas signee had 24 points and eight assists in an 87-39 win over Little Elm. Centennial made 12 3-pointers and had a school-record six players score in double figures.
Points scored by Jeremy Combs for the Carter boys in a 67-45 win over Woodrow Wilson, the state’s third-ranked 4A team.
Rebounds for Syndey Brock for the Richland girls in a 66-56 victory against Keller Fossil Ridge. She scored 13 points. Destiny Nunley
