Friday's HS football regional semis roundup: Henderson runs over Celina; Frisco Legacy advances
MESQUITE — Diamante Wright rushed for 291 yards and three touchdowns, and Henderson dominated in the second half to beat Celina, 64-35, in a Class 3A Division II Region II semifinal Friday at Hanby Stadium.
Henderson outscored Celina, 48-15, in the second half after trailing 20-16. Henderson (9-4) advanced to play Gilmer (12-1) in the regional final.
Henderson went ahead to stay with 7:37 remaining in the third quarter when Patrick Brown scored on a 16-yard run. Brown gave Henderson a two-score lead at 29-20 on Henderson’s next series when he scored on a 34-yard run.
Celina running back Deshawn Davis cut the deficit to 29-27 on the next play from scrimmage when he burst free for a 72-yard touchdown run. Henderson answered on the next play from scrimmage when Wright scored on a 44-yard run to make it 36-27.
Celina (10-3) turned the ball over three times in the second half as Henderson pulled away. Nathan Elliott led Celina with 176 yards passing and accounted for 219 yards. Davis finished with 173 yards rushing.
Henderson rushed 55 times for 425 yards. Brown finished with 141 yards rushing and five touchdowns.
LONGVIEW — Corsicana Mildred proved it can win the ugly games, and do so decisively.
Jeremy Ballard had three interceptions, and Mildred’s defense limited big plays in the running game in a Class 2A Division II Region II semifinal. Mildred (11-1) advanced to play Nocona in the regional final.
Draylon Sterling ran for 196 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries for Mildred. Nic Shimonek ran for three scores, threw two touchdowns passes to Mikey Muncy, and had 159 total yards.

BEDFORD — Ovie Urevbu ran for 181 yards and scored two touchdowns as Frisco Legacy Christian held off Colleyville Covenant Christian in a TAPPS Division III state semifinal at Pennington Field.
Legacy (11-2) will play Shiner St. Paul in the state championship game at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco.
Frisco Legacy avenged a 45-17 loss to Colleyville Covenant in district play, but it took a late defensive stop to do so. Trailing by five, Covenant (12-1) got the ball on its 13-yard line with 3:15 remaining. It reached the Legacy 40 but was stopped for no gain on a run on fourth-and-3.
Brooks Friedman opened the scoring for Covenant with a 38-yard field goal on the game’s opening series. Legacy answered with Urevbu’s 2-yard touchdown in the second quarter and held a 7-3 lead at halftime.
Legacy started the second half with a quick scoring drive, moving 66 yards in five plays. Adam Beck finished the series with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Christian Hollowell to put Legacy ahead 14-3.
Covenant stayed within striking distance when Kade Thomas threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Trey Jackson on the final play of the third quarter. An incomplete pass on the two-point conversion attempt left Covenant trailing 14-9.
Urevbu scored on a 20-yard reception with 8:01 remaining to put Legacy up 21-9. On the next series, Covenant covered 63 yards in just over a minute and scored on Micah Lutz’s 5-yard touchdown with 6:42 to play.
