COPPELL — The legs of quarterback Travis Korry and sophomore running back Sotonya Jamabo helped Plano West survive a second-half rally by Lake Highlands for a 42-35 playoff win.
Korry ran for 177 yards while Jamabo had 175 yards and five touchdowns to hold off Lake Highlands, ranked No. 12 in the 5A area poll, in a 5A Division II bi-district game at Cowboy Stadium.
Plano West (7-4) advances to meet South Garland in the area round. Plano West’s win avenged a 34-19 loss to Lake Highlands (8-3) in the second week of the season.
Lake Highlands trailed 35-14 midway through the third quarter when quarterback Trent Jones threw touchdown passes on three consecutive drives.
Jones connected with Jamarice Preston for a 25-yard touchdown, then tossed a 49-yard touchdown to a wide-open Tyree Britton.
Lake Highlands pulled even, 35-35, with 10:58 left when Sam Iheke hauled in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Jones.
Plano West responded with an 85-yard drive to reclaim the lead with 6:54 left on Jamabo’s fifth touchdown, a 5-yard carry.

Lake Highlands got the ball back with 1:03 left but Jones, who passed for 220 yards, was under heavy pressure from the Plano West defense on the final possession. Lake Highlands turned the ball over on downs with 42 seconds left.
Plano West’s defense also made two big stops in the first half for a 28-14 lead at the break. Plano West held Lake Highlands on fourth down at the Plano West 32, then Logan Caillouet picked off a pass to foil another drive.
Plano West converted the turnover into Jamabo’s third touchdown of the night, on a four-yard run, and a 28-7 lead.
Lake Highlands scored with 56 seconds left in the half on a five-yard carry by Elbert Landry to pull within 28-14. The half ended on Plano West’s ensuing drive, the only time Plano West did not score on a possession in the first half.
