GARLAND — V.J. Gates threw for 98 yards and the decisive touchdown with 7:54 remaining to lead Garland to an 30-23 victory over Garland Lakeview on Thursday night in the District 11-5A opener for both squads at Williams Stadium.

Gates connected with DraShane Glass on a 13-yard touchdown pass with 7:54 remaining to snap a 23-23 tie, lifting Garland (1-4, 1-0) to its first win.

E’Lon Green added 111 yards and a touchdown on 19 rushes as Garland managed to overcome two lost fumbles and 12 penalties totaling 102 yards.

Brent Davenport led Lakeview (3-2, 0-1), completing 13 of 21 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Chris Gonzalez rushed for 166 yards and two scores as Adamson edged Seagoville at Pleasant Grove Stadium. Adamson overcame a 17-0 second-quarter deficit to remain unbeaten (4-0, 1-0 11-4A).

DeMarcus Kelly intercepted a Seagoville pass with 59 seconds left to seal the victory.

Seagoville turned the ball over on downs at the Adamson 41 on its previous possession with 2:54 remaining.

Seagoville (1-3, 0-1) cut the deficit to 28-23 with 6:22 remaining in regulation when Kelton Grimes passed 16 yards to Tavion Wharry.

Seagoville outgained Adamson in total yards 403 to 326 but was undone by four turnovers.

Adamson rushed 43 times for 318 yards. Keith Bryant rushed 14 times for 132 yards.

Kenneth Perkins led Seagoville with 129 yards rushing. Grimes finished with 107 yards passing.

CARROLLTON — West Mesquite (3-1, 1-0 10-4A) raced out to a 22-0 lead and took a 25-7 advantage into halftime but twice watched Creekview (2-2, 0-1) crawl back within one score of taking the lead.

Raashaan Reason scored on a 93-yard run on West Mesquite’s first play from scrimmage and had a 70-yard run midway through the fourth quarter to set up another touchdown. He finished with 215 yards on 14 carries. West Mesquite gained 520 yards, with 399 coming on the ground.

Creekview quarterback David Blough passed for 306 yards and three scores. Dylan Kittrell had 82 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches, while Raquan Dobbs pulled down five passes for 99 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown.

Creekview scored twice in the third to trim West’s lead to 25-20 as the game entered the fourth, but fell short of an upset to start the district schedule.

FRISCO — Davis Webb threw five touchdown passes for Prosper (4-0, 1-0 District 9-4A) in the win over Frisco Heritage (1-3, 0-1) at Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium. Webb finished 21-of-30 for 270 yards and completed passes to 11 receivers as Prosper remained unbeaten. Torii Hunter Jr. had four catches for 98 yards and three touchdowns.

Haltom

Keller -- Keller Timber Creek erased a 21-7 deficit by scoring 37 unanswered points as they stormed back for a homecoming win over Haltom at Keller ISD Athletic Complex.

Haltom (1-3, 0-1) grabbed the momentum in the first half when Travis Danford rushed for a short touchdown. Then Haltom recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, which led to another score. Danford delivered a short swing pass to Undrell Thomas, who went 33 yards for the touchdown.

But Keller Timber Creek (1-3, 1-0) dominated the second half as running back Amon Lindsey rushed for a pair of touchdowns as he finished the night with 154 yards rushing.

Taylor Jones helped seal Keller Timber Creek’s victory of the season when he tossed a 14-yard scoring strike to Chris Hernandez then followed it up with his second rushing touchdown of the night late in the fourth quarter.

Bryan Adams’ defense and special teams scored four touchdowns in a rout of Thomas Jefferson in a District 12-4A opener at Forester Stadium.

Joseph Broadnax recovered a fumble in the end zone for one score and then blocked a punt that Greg Brown-Freeney recovered for another touchdown. Linebacker Ian Compton led the defense with four sacks and had a 72-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. One possession later, Latavius Wallace stripped the ball carrier and went 15 yards for a score.

IRVING — Quarterback Sebastian Taylor threw for 147 yards and four touchdowns, including two scoring passes to Kevin Booze (four catches, 95 yards) to lead MacArthur.

MacArthur (3-1, 1-0 6-5A) rolled up 438 yards on offense and took command of the game early, as Taion Sells scored on the opening kickoff with a 91-yard return. Sells also had a touchdown reception.

Tomas Chavas scored two touchdowns, including a 34-yard interception return for the winning score with 6:44 to play, to lead Molina in the District 11-4A opener for both squads at Sprague Stadium.

Following the interception, Pinkston (2-2, 0-1 11-4A) drove to the Molina 33-yard line but quarterback Deion Higgins tossed three straight incompletions before being whistled for intentionally grounding the ball thus giving the ball back to Molina (2-2, 1-0).

DENTON — Denton Guyer (2-2, 1-0 5-4A) scored 21 points in 2 minutes, 8 seconds in the first quarter and never looked back in the win over over Azle (3-1, 0-1) at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex.

Guyer scored on its first four possessions and finished with 454 yards, 294 of those on the ground. Four rushers had over 50 yards apiece led by Connor McCown with 11 carries for 69 yards and a 2-yard run to finish off the scoring.

Six Guyer players scored, five on the ground.

D.J. Breedloe scored on a 9-yard run on the opening possession. After Azle fumbled the kickoff Nake Maki scored from 2 yards out and Richard Whitaker added a 7-yard run after Terrell Singleton returned an interception 25 yards for a 28-0 lead.

FORT WORTH — Birdville quarterback Justin Martin and wideout Samuel Northey connected for three first half scores to lead Birdville (5-0, 3-0 in 6-4A) at Farrington Field. Martin finished with 300 yards passing and five touchdowns all in the first half. Northey finished with 99 receiving yards.

WICHITA FALLS — Wichita Falls Rider running back Domanic Thrasher rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns before halftime, and quarterback J.T. Barrett scored twice in the second half in a District 5-4A opener.

Barrett passed for 162 yards and rushed for 130 to lead Rider (3-1, 1-0) to touchdowns on five of its first six possessions.
