Allen RB Jeff Harris runs wild, leads offense in manhandling Hebron, 42-17
Harris scores 2 TDs as No. 1 Allen avenges its last home loss
ALLEN — Allen’s last home loss was avenged in a big way Friday night at Eagle Stadium.
The Eagles scored early and often in a 42-17 victory against visiting Hebron, which was mostly helpless against SportsDay’s top-ranked 5A team.
Hebron, No. 15 in the area rankings, was the last team to beat Allen at home — a 35-28 win in 2010. That was also the only district game Allen has lost since 2005.
“We just couldn’t let it happen again,” running back Jeff Harris said.
Harris was a big contributor to the effort, racking up 160 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns. He broke the game open with touchdown runs of 52 and 60 yards in the third quarter.
Allen (4-0) spread the ball around in the first half, getting touchdowns from Oliver Pierce, Marcus Ward and Cole Carter to take a 21-0 lead. Hebron (2-2) scored shortly before the half to keep the game in reach.
But Harris wiped away any Hebron momentum with the first of his two big touchdown runs to start the second half.
“The first five minutes of the third quarter is probably one of the most important parts of the football game,” Allen coach Tom Westerberg said. “We’ve been able to come out and set the tone in the third quarter this year.”
The Hebron defense got the stop it sorely needed two possessions later, but it was undone by a special teams error. After forcing a three-and-out, Shane Tripucka’s punt bounced off Cardell Lue’s head and rolled into the arms of Allen’s Kaleb Ziegler.
Harris was in the end zone 30 seconds later to give Allen a 35-10 lead.
“We finally got a stop there and I thought we had a little momentum and the ball hits us,” Hebron coach Brian Brazil said. “Things just didn’t go our way tonight, but that’s because they’re a dang good team.”
Dezmond Wortham led Hebron with 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
