Corbett Smith's notable Week Two HS football games, predictions

Euless Trinity vs. DeSoto

Kincaide Stadium, 7:30 p.m. Saturday: There are several area running backs with more gaudy numbers, but few possess the potential of Dontre Wilson. Although he's never broken 1,000 yards in a season, Wilson is considered by several recruiting services as one of the top two or three tailback prospects in the state. The allure has to do with speed; the 5-10, 175-pound Wilson consistently breaks 22 seconds as a 200-meter sprinter and is a member of DeSoto's medal-winning 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays. For the first time in his three-year career, he will be the first option for DeSoto (2-0) at running back – despite averaging more than 6 yards per carry during his sophomore and junior seasons and scoring 30 touchdowns in his career. Wilson spurned Texas in order to commit to Oregon, but did so after the Ducks had already secured Oregon high school superstar Thomas Tyner. The size up front for Euless Trinity (1-1) will present a formidable challenge. DeSoto 35, Euless Trinity 28

Lancaster vs. Kimball

Sprague Stadium (Ch. 21, 10:30 p.m., same-day delay): At the start of the season, Lancaster coach Chris Gilbert wasn't thrilled to be ranked in the SportsDayHS Class 4A Top 10. He wanted his team to play the underdog role, at least to start. Any ability to remain out of the spotlight is over, though; Lancaster (2-0) upset Tyler John Tyler last week, then the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4A. Washington State pledge QB Demarcus Ayers rushed for two scores and threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to junior WR Nick Harvey in the 26-21 win. Kimball (2-0) isn't exactly off the radar either, with potentially as many as five FBS signees in its senior class. Defensive tackle Justin Manning has offers from Oklahoma, LSU, Texas and USC. Running back Teriyon Gipson rushed for 233 yards and three scores last week against Madison. Lancaster 27, Kimball 20
