Softball Player of the Week (5/6): Forney's Krista Williams

What she did: Facing Hallsville all-state pitcher Jamie Allred, Williams went 2-for-4 and drove in the winning run with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the eighth to give Forney a 2-1 win over the state’s fifth-ranked 4A team in a one-game playoff. Forney (26-6-2), the state’s second-ranked team, advanced to play sixth-ranked Elgin in a Region II quarterfinal.

Who she is: A junior catcher who has orally committed to McNeese State.

The stats: Williams is hitting .375 with three home runs and 19 RBIs.

She said it: “This was it. I could potentially win the game. All I had to do was concentrate. I was just trying to get a deep fly ball into the outfield. If that was enough, we could potentially score that run.”

Coach said it: “Situation-wise, that’s the biggest hit she’s had. It’s one of the best at-bats I’ve seen by anybody in awhile.” — Eric Montgomery

Did you know? Williams wants to become a high school chemistry teacher. … Williams was 4-for-6 and an all-tournament selection at the state tournament last season as Forney finished as the 4A state runner-up.
