DeSoto survived a closely called game - where 45 fouls were called - to beat Garland in the Class 5A Region II area round, 78-51, at North Forney.
Bryce Owens scored 23 points, and Texas A&M signee Jordan Jones added
14 points and seven assists as DeSoto (32-5) won its 13th straight game.
DeSoto coach Larry Goad said his team's bench was key, especially in the first half when both Owens and Jones were out in foul trouble. At times in the second quarter, DeSoto - No. 10 in the TABC state rankings - had five reserves on the court.
"Our bench did a great job, not only defending, but scoring," Goad said. "Anytime you can have two All-Americans out with foul trouble, and still stay in it, you're doing alright."
Reserve Charron Montgomery scored five of her seven points during a
13-0 DeSoto run in the second quarter; Garland never closed the deficit closer than nine from that point.
Bridget Robinson scored a game-high 27 points for Garland (25-8), which made only 11 of 21 free-throw attempts in the first half.
