SportsDayHS 2011 Offensive Player of the Year: Kenny Hill follows in footsteps of Carroll stars
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Kenny Hill, Southlake Carroll, Jr.
Southlake Carroll coach Hal Wasson, as many coaches do, likes to philosophize about the game, using buzzwords to describe intangibles he deems necessary for success. Clearly, his quarterback, Kenny Hill, fulfills these tenets.
“Whatever that ‘it’ is, he had it,” Wasson said. “You can recognize the guys that don’t have it, and you can recognize the guys that do have it.”
In his second year as Carroll’s starting quarterback, Hill, a junior, led Southlake Carroll to an undefeated season and state championship. His playoff performances seemed to get better as the rounds went on. In the state title game, he threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
Southlake Carroll has had several superstar quarterbacks in the last decade, from Chase Daniel to Greg McElroy to Riley Dodge, guys who led the Dragons to state titles. Hill grew up admiring those players. Now he’s one of them.
Ht., Wt.: 6-1, 205
About Hill: Hill threw for 3,006 yards and 25 touchdowns and rushed for 1,383 yards and 24 touchdowns.
What’s next? Hill returns for his senior season but will be without his top receiving targets Peyton Williams and Sabian Holmes. Hill should be able to pick from several high-level FBS schools.
