Trinity survives scare, tops Colleyville Heritage, 38-35, on FG in overtime
BEDFORD — Colleyville Heritage came back from a 14-point deficit to force overtime, but Euless Trinity’s Austin Lopez kicked a 37-yard field goal in overtime to give his team a 38-35 victory at Pennington field.
Heritage quarterback Cody Thomas passed for 341 yards and five touchdowns against the usually dominant Trinity defense. He threw touchdown passes of 9 yards to Nolan Brown and 15 yards to Daniel Farrington in the fourth quarter to rally Heritage from a 35-21 deficit.
Heritage (4-1, 2-1 in District 6-5A), No. 9 in The News’ area rankings, had a chance to win it in regulation after forcing Trinity to punt late in the fourth quarter. But Heritage missed a 49-yard field goal at the end of regulation, then missed a 40-yarder in overtime following Lopez’s make.
No. 2 Trinity (5-0, 3-0) took advantage of a big game from Joel Kempala, who rushed for 208 yards and a touchdown.

Despite giving up big yardage numbers, Trinity’s defense made just enough plays to win. Trinity intercepted three Heritage passes, including a touchdown-saving pick by defensive back Terrell Williams at the goal line in the third quarter.
Heritage’s defense got better as the game went on. Trinity only had four first downs in the fourth quarter and overtime as Heritage. Trinity never punted in the first half but had to punt on three of four second-half possessions.
Heritage’s Landon Sherman had 13 receptions for 44 yards, including a pair of touchdowns.
