Bishop Lynch names Ben Dasch new head football coach
Release from Bishop Lynch High School:
DALLAS. Please join the Bishop Lynch students and faculty as we celebrate the selection of Coach Ben Dasch(BL Class of 1995) to lead the Friars into the 50th Anniversary as Head Football Coach. Coach Dasch has the distinction of being only the second Alumnus to be named as Head Football Coach at Bishop Lynch High School. After sorting through a pool of over 50 resumes from quite literally all over the country, the committee interviewed five outstanding candidates which lead to a second round with the two finalists.
Coach Dasch's extensive coaching background includes several other coaching and head coaching positions, but, ultimately, his love of the Friars drew him home. After graduating from Bishop Lynch in 1995, Dasch left for the University of Alabama, which he dearly and obsessively loves to this day. He has been coaching since 1999, when he began his career as a volunteer football and baseball coach at Tuscaloosa Academy during his last semester of undergraduate work at Alabama. Dasch was elevated to Defensive Coordinator at Tuscaloosa Academy in 2000 and was named as the school's Head Football Coach in 2001. After two and a half years, Dasch's teams compiled a record of 17-9 and made two AISA playoff appearances.
Coach Dasch moved back to Dallas in 2004 when he accepted the job of Special Teams Coordinator and Head Strength Coach at Bishop Lynch High School. He served in the role of Defensive Coordinator since 2006. In almost 13 years of coaching, Coach Dasch has coached in three state title games (baseball in 1999 and 2000 and football in 2008), and his teams have reached the state semi-finals in nine of the last eleven years. In addition to his head football coaching responsibilities, next year Coach Dasch will begin his tenth year at Bishop Lynch High School and his sixth year as Assistant Athletic Director in charge of Athletic Operations.
Bishop Lynch Athletic Director Andy Zihlman said, "We are looking forward to a great year with Coach Dasch at the helm at the Friar Football Program. Since he joined the Friar Football Staff in 2004, his leadership, passion and dedication to his athletes and to Bishop Lynch High School has been evident in everything he does." Knowing of Coach Dasch's intense passion for the football program and his athletes, the theater erupted as the football team was notified of their new head coach. Zihlman added, "We hope you will join us as we look forward to an exciting 2013 season and celebration of our school's 50th Anniversary."
One notable event celebrating Bishop Lynch's 50th Anniversary includes a football game at 7:30 pm on Friday, September 6th between the Friars of Bishop Lynch and the Friars of Fenwick. These two schools have quite a history, sharing school colors, mascot, motto and Dominican heritage. Many of the founding faculty and staff of BLHS were clergy - both priests and nuns - from Fenwick Catholic High School located just outside of Chicago in Oak Park, Illinois. It will be a spirited competition highlighting the schools' common histories and sharing memories between the former and current Friars.
