State softball roundup: Aledo gets 2 in sixth to beat defending champs, 6-5

AUSTIN — Aledo scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning and rallied to beat defending state champion Buda Hays, 6-5, in a Class 4A state semifinal Friday.

Megan Mason led off with a double for Aledo (32-4) in the sixth, Riley Sartain walked and Kadyn Kirkpatrick reached on an error, scoring the first run of the inning. Sartain then scored the winning run on another error.

Hays (31-6) trailed 4-1 before scoring four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. Michelle Pesina drove in two runs with a double, and Karina Rocha followed with a two-run home run.

In the top of the seventh, Hays put runners on first and second with two outs. But a popout to first ended the game.

The Woodlands 12, San Antonio Southwest 2: Baylor pledge Abby Langkamp (26-0) gave up two runs in four innings and went 2 for 3 with three RBIs as The Woodlands won a 5A state semifinal in six innings.

The Woodlands (39-3), ranked No. 9 in the nation, will play Deer Park in Saturday’s final. The Woodlands won the 5A state title in 2011, and Deer Park won it in 2012.

Deer Park 6, Lubbock Coronado 1: Caitlin Plocheck (8-0) allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings and homered and drove in three runs as Deer Park won a 5A state semifinal.

Deer Park (38-6), in the state tournament for the third straight year, also got three RBIs from Erin Edmoundson.
