Softball playoffs: Carroll sweeps Martin; Lewisville, Flower Mound advance in two games

Texas Tech signee Alex Schneider pitched a four-hit shutout Friday as Southlake Carroll beat Arlington Martin, 4-0, and completed a two-game sweep of a best-of-3 Class 5A first-round playoff series.

Carroll (19-12), which finished fourth in District 4-5A, pounded out 12 hits against a Martin team that was tied for 10th in the latest 5A state rankings. It was the second straight year that Carroll eliminated Martin in the first round of the playoffs.

Alexa Wimberly was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Lewisville 10, Euless Trinity 0: Jessica Nelson went 3-for-3 with three RBIs as defending 5A state champion Lewisville won in five innings to sweep its series. Lewisville (26-7) outscored Trinity 26-0 in the two games.

LSU pledge Maribeth Gorsuch pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 10 for Lewisville.

Flower Mound 11, Irving 2: Mikayla Moser and Annelise Oswalt homered as the state's third-ranked 5A team swept Irving.

Oswalt was 4-for-4 with five RBIs. Claire Lefner and Reagan Carter combined on a one-hitter.

Plano West 16, W.T. White 1: Marissa Butler threw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out nine as Plano West won a one-game playoff. Plano West (23-6-1), tied for 10th in the 5A state rankings, got a home run and three RBIs from Kelly Burke, and Kelsey Vining was 4-for-4.

Hebron 13, Colleyville Heritage 2: District 5-5A fourth-place finisher Hebron scored eight runs in the first two innings and cruised to a first-round sweep of 6-5A champion Colleyville Heritage. Olivia Martinez was 3-for-4 with four RBIs for Hebron (16-17).

Mansfield 1, Temple 0: Casey Waterman pitched a five-hit shutout, and Bailee Baldwin was 2-for-3 and scored the only run as Mansfield (24-4) won a one-game playoff in 5A.

Rockwall 20, Garland Naaman Forest 1: District 12-5A co-champion Rockwall (23-4-1) had 14 extra-base hits in a one-game playoff.

Mesquite Poteet 9, Frisco 7: Poteet scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete its rally from a 7-3 deficit and wrap up a two-game sweep of its first-round 4A series.

Shelby Wilson had three doubles and three RBIs for Poteet (21-12). Aubree Turbeville hit a two-run double with two outs in the sixth to tie the score, and Wilson followed with an RBI double to give Poteet an 8-7 lead.

North Forney 9, The Colony 3: Christi Flanigan's two-run double in the fifth inning gave North Forney the lead for good as the District 10-4A champion swept its series. North Forney (26-4-2) trailed 3-2 before scoring five runs in the fifth.

Mansfield Legacy 8, Corsicana 6: Legacy scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally from a two-run deficit and win Game 1. Baylor signee Kendall Potts had three RBIs for Legacy (23-4) and combined with Ryan Wright for 15 strikeouts.

Little Elm 8, Carrollton Creekview 3: Ellyse Boughey had four RBIs as Little Elm won a one-game playoff.
